"Desiderata" By Max Ehrmann

Friend and former grade school classmate, Sheila, posted her favorite poem on Facebook. She mentioned that she's hung an old copy of this poem in every home she's lived in. Sheila wrote, "I can't count the times I've had to go to wherever it may be hanging, and read it again to keep me going...or, at certain times in my help me STAY."
To hear a wonderful narration of this poem: "Desiderata" by Max Ehrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

More Dreams

Of late I have not written down my dreams. One after another were of the kind I wasn't sure I wanted anyone to EVER read about, let alone admit that I had dreamed them. LOL! Starting tonight I'm going to go to bed with the intention of recording my dreams again because I miss not doing so. Hopefully they won't be soooo...blush...soooo embarrassing!

Here's a few dreams that go back a ways, but haven't been recorded on this blog yet...

Chris was conducting a concert of his students and things were not going so well. Suddenly, a red-haired boy who played some instrument like a clarinet, began singing. His singing raised everyone's spirits. Others in the band began to sing, too, and the concert's quality rose many levels. The whole audience got involved singing. I was very proud.

Both Chris and I had the same sort of dream. We had to move to NYC and were living in a mixed neighborhood in a borough. My dream has us in a brick house (may have been a lower flat), the second house from the end of a dead-end street. I noticed that neighbors were cooking on a hibachi grill. These same neighbors had beautiful, large, different-colored tomatoes cut in slices and arranged beautifully on the table, waiting to go on their burgers.

Chris dreamed that Alexander (our youngest son), or an Alexander-like-figure, helped us move. Chris was upset that Alexander's friends had "roughed up" Chloe (our black cat) and didn't take care of her properly whilst we moved.

I dreamed the house's rent was pricey, but do-able.

I was at either the old Cunningham's drug store or the old Kresge's Five and Dime at Eastland in Harper Woods, MI...pre-mall time period. Chris was in a customer's booth at the food counter, and left stuff in the booth while he went off to do something. I was a waitress there. Some thieves sat at the booth that Chris was just in, and one started to go through and steal Chris' black gig book. I yelled at them to stay where they were and told folks behind the counter to call the cops. Two of the guys got away. I woke up before the cops came.

I was driving in St. Paul, Minnesota. I stopped in an old, run-down, neighborhood and went into a Five and Dime store. The store was dark and had rather motley stuff for sale. I stood in an aisle featuring cardboard holiday decorations. Sandy K. (a girl I had really went to grade school with) took the last sparkly Santa decoration and I was bummed. I settled on white snowflakes but was hard-pressed to find any in good shape. I bought some of the snowflakes anyways and a sheet of pierced blue paper that also had a snowflake design. I had planned to put the paper on the front of my University of Detroit Holden Hall dorm room door. When I left the store, I didn't know which way to go and found myself almost making the mistake of going the wrong way on a one-way ramp. When I eventually opened the package of blue snowflake paper, I found it defective. You couldn't tell the piercings were snowflakes at all.

Chris and I were driving in our car. We reached an underpass where we saw a golden collie-mix dog at the corner of the underpass. I said, "Chris, we have to get that dog or it's going to get killed." Chris said, "We do?" I said, "Yes. Pull over!" Chris looked sadly back at the back seat of the car, worrying that the dog would muck up the interior. I opened the back door and said, "Come on," to the dog who obediently jumped in and settled down immediately, head on the seat.. The dog had tags but I never looked at them, knowing I would have to find the owner. We brought the dog home and named her "Holly" and she was loved by everyone. I never did get around to calling the owner of the dog, but had full intentions of doing so, even tho' this made me sad.

We were in a large, old house. Both of our boys were with us as they look now. I discovered that the bathroom tub and shower that the guys used was covered in mold and fungus spores...dark grey spots all over. I freaked when I saw this because apparently I had been treating it for that fungus all along.

I was involved in some kind of Olympic fundraising for 1) The Master Spinner Course in Ontario, Canada; 2) The Library; and 3) The Olympics itself. Alexander (our youngest son) and a friend were actually IN the Olympics, as was Chris. There was a combined sport where you went in carts around hairpin turns on the ocean's edge. Next came rock climbing. And scuba diving, and more.

Chris and I lived in a Victorian-like house; rather communal with other people. Two women in the house were each starting their own businesses, dealing with interior decorating and the like. I went in to get my jeans but Chris had either gotten rid of them or moved them. In their place were car-greasy old men's jeans. All of Chris' clothes were gone, too. While Chris was upstairs, I found myself going to the bathroom right where I stood, horrified Chris would see what I had done. End of dream.

And EPIC-style dream that seemed to last all night. (Note: I had even gotten up to go to the bathroom and the dream continued once I went back to bed.) The dream began with me dealing with illnesses and diseases of all kinds in all parts of my body. Just as I'd get one bout under control, another illness would escalate. It was like trying to plug a dam with my pinkie finger. This dream effortlessly segued into me being a dancer, studying in England. I was already well-known as a dancer. I arrived in a famous teacher's class late, not in the correct garb, but because I was so good the teacher re-explained everything to me. She let me dance in my jeans and bare feet. Next thing you know, everyone in the class was dancing and leaping in the streets. I followed them upstairs but because I don't "do" stairs well, folks passed me by. As they went on, I somehow couldn't keep up and got lost. I found myself in an all men's painting class very far away from the dancers. The men said that I was miles away from where I should be. I went outside and found myself in one of the roughest ghettos in England. I danced my way towards where I was supposed to be.

A really strange dream. It was as if my human body was talking to my higher self.

I was at a Tarot "convention," set up like an outdoor rock concert but in a huge cathedral. Everyone was in sleeping bags on the ground. I was set up next to a friend and on the other side was a college-age boy. At the end of the first day, the boy asked if he could keep his stuff with mine. Before I could answer, he began plopping his stuff with mine and got ready to take off to play squash or polo. The Tarot "master" was like a minister. He was cleaning huge piles of garbage on the end of the first day and nearly destroyed my belongings and my Tarot deck in the process. My friend went up to complain to the "master" but he shrugged and seemed non-plussed.

I dreamed I went to Lily Dale. It started off as a church service involving props and a huge children's choir. Often the kids wouldn't say anything or would miss their cue. A woman in the pew ahead of me rolled her eyes over the whole thing. We got to the church via boat and went to class via boat. After "mass," Chris left and went back to his own room in the dorm. I sat with several women. The woman next to me was pretty strange. She, and the others, wore clothes that "exposed" themselves. They all seemed pretty nonchalant regarding their "gifts."

Chris and I were gifted two black rats and several white mice. This didn't seem to bother either of us. In fact, I learned they wouldn't bite us any more than a dog or cat would, just as long as we respected and understood them. For some reason, we kept them all together in a tall, rectagular, cardboard box with no lid. Something or t'other came up and we had to move them from one spot to another. Chris did so by collapsing the sides of the box. I loudly protested that the animals could get squished and that their water bowl would spill. The animals did not get squished but their bowl did spill.

I was teaching a 3-day-blitz spinning class. It was awful. The class seemed disinterested. They hardly listened and wandered off here and there. Near lunch, they left early without even asking if it was OK. The class seemed to be held on a college campus. When I met up with Chris at lunch he could tell things weren't going well. I told him it was the worst situation I had ever been in. At first Chris was skeptical, but as I explained what was going on, he understood.

Lynn Z. (a gal I had actually gone to high school with) and I both worked at a boutique. A class of multigenerational students with various learning disabilities and social skills came in to the boutique. One little girl went to the bathroom in her pants near a wall. I went to a back room and couldn't find a bucket. Lynn knowingly said, "Make do," and handed me a plastic freezer bag into which I put water and a cleaning solution. I went off to clean up the mess.

A long, convoluted dream. I was staying at an aunt's house...sort of an Aunt Dorothy figure. She had another older woman living with her, too. I was there with my aunt because she was to celebrate an anniversary of some type, with a big party that was to be held at a church. Rita B. was a guest speaker. The event was a fiasco. All the people there could not hear anything coming out of the speakers because there was no microphone. Afterward, I got lost walking back to my aunt's place because no one had offered me a ride home. I stopped at a garage and the garage owner gave me a lift to my aunt's home. When I arrived, my aunt was frantic because the landlord was going to inspect her place. We tried to tidy up.

Tarot Study: The Lovers~6, The Chariot~7, And Strength~8

This is the third installment featuring my write-ups of a Tarot study that I did on Aeclectic Tarot using the Robin Wood deck back in '07. Please see the first post regarding this study: Tarot Study: The Fool~0, The Magician~1, And The High Priestess~2. The second post can be found here: Tarot Study: The Empress~3, The Emperor~4, And The Heirophant~5. And please remember, my viewpoints may have, tho' not necessarily, changed since that time.

May 12, 2007 ~ The Lovers(6)
Such a beautiful rendition of "The Lovers" by Robin. Two becoming one and yet not losing their own personal identity and worth. Each person contributing in the ways that suit them best, coming together and being stronger for the union.

'course this could be said of two people in love, or two people who work together, or two ideas that when joined make for an even better idea...OR it could even be the uniting of more than two people, such as in a sports team. An example: I'm an avid fan of the NBA Detroit Pistons (once a Detroit sports fan, always a Detroit sports fan). The make-up of that particular team in the last few years and currently is not one of singular superstars who make or break the team, depending on what kind of game they're having. The current Pistons team is one of respect and yes, love for each other; each member being able to contribute their own talents for the good of all. A team member on the Pistons this year isn't (Please note: This was written by me in '07) the winner of the NBA's MVP (Most Valuable Player) award...the whole team is one big, MVP. Alas, there's no award per se for MVT...Most Valuable Team...UNLESS they get into and win the finals! Go Pistons! But I digress...

So many lovely symbols tucked into this card...the sun and moon, an apple tree and oak joined as one, well-tended and plowed fields and a homestead, butterflies and birds, hills and mountains...all positive and showing the possibilities that love and unity can bring.

When this card appears in a spread upright, I can't help but smile and think of good things.

May 14, 2007 ~ The Chariot(7)
Robin Wood's "Chariot" has a way of being where the action is in my spreads dealing with my husband. Not surprising, since my husband is a jazz musician and ethnomusicologist. Plus, my husband's demeanor is not unlike Robin's depiction of the man in the driver's seat AND, although not a blonde, wears his hair long. Still, it's almost uncanny how often the Chariot appears in my husband's spreads!

I've heard from other Tarot readers and enthusiasts that Robin's card is often their favorite "Chariot." It's rich with symbolism, like all her cards, and generally not unpleasant in overall feel. That said, a ride on that Chariot would and/or could be the ride of a lifetime, considering the guy holds no reins on those feisty, perhaps unpredictable, unicorns as they travel amongst the clouds. The eyes of the unicorns have an other-worldly quality to them...seeing what I can't see...yet. Maybe the unicorns are taking us to places we've not yet discovered, earthly or otherwise. No matter what, I'm often reminded to leave my fears and inhibitions at home as I enjoy the ride.

Often I'm drawn to the yin-yang symbol, making me question whether balance is needed or already in place.

And usually most noticeable to me is the *starry, starry night* cloth enveloping the driver. This is a guy not fearful, but instead at home with the cosmos and its secrets. One can sometimes learn just as much being in the passenger seat, instead of always being the driver.

May 15, 2007 ~ Strength(8)
Strength is a card that was artistically drawn not unlike other decks, as Robin pointed out in her book. She felt that the image of a woman at ease (and very much in control) with a lion was powerful, not to mention poignant, in meaning, and indeed, I'd have to agree. Both the woman and the lion are bold, brave and courageous: The woman is strong for even getting near to a lion, let alone caressing it and laying her hand under his chin. The lion is strong because he'd have to control his basic urges of dominance, aggressiveness and forceful nature to even allow such a union between he and the woman to take place. They both win in this relationship!

Robin set the Strength card at 8, rather than 11 as in some other decks. I particularly appreciated her explanation of this, equating the 8 with the infinity symbol...strength that IS infinite in scope. Since reading this, it's not failed to come to my attention in a reading.

Trust is a word that rings out when I see this card in a reading. Or lack thereof, depending on where the card turns up in the spread or if it's reversed. A lion and a woman would have to each have the utmost of trust in each other for the scene in the card to occur.

The lion is not depicted as weak or mealy-mouthed, however. Nor has the woman taken over as the powerful dominator. Each can keep their unique, personal qualities intact...there is no need for sacrificing them. Instead, a RESPECT has formed between them for each other. They appreciate and applaud each other's personalities but know that if unchecked aggressiveness from either gets unleashed, the relationship will be irretrievably damaged (let alone the horrible injury to life and limb!)

Finding Your Birth Card And More!

A few weeks ago yet another kindly numerologist did an impromptu reading for me as I was awaiting Sunday service to start at TNSA. It's neat that I'm meeting various numerologists these days. The numerologist's name is Wayne Ralph Baxter. He arrived at the church with someone who I believe is his significant other, Linda Kay de Jesus, who is the Program Director of The Fox Center. Wayne is the VP of The Fox Center. I've not been to The Fox Center yet, but it sure does look interesting.

Before I attempt to remember (Note to self: Must jot down readings right away when I get them!) Wayne's numerology reading for me, there was another website folks may be interested in that he mentioned: Your Destiny Online. Wayne said, "I believe you're the 10 of Hearts." When I returned home that afternoon, I looked up my birth card here: Your Birth Card. Wayne was correct...I AM the 10 of Hearts! And here is what it said about me: The Ten of Hearts. Neat! Do consider looking up your birth card and check out what it says about YOU! Once you find your birth card, check out your two "Karma" cards (listed near the bottom of your birth card write-up), as well. My Karma cards are: The Jack of Clubs and The Five of Spades. Interesting! Now, once you know your birth card, take a look at Metasymbology. Here's what that site says about my 10 of Hearts: Metasymbology's Ten of Hearts. Neat!

So as I was saying, I was given a numerology reading by Wayne as we were waiting on the couch for the church service to begin. We had exchanged business cards and I saw him busily calculating something in his head. Here's what I can remember from Wayne's reading of me (I KNOW I've forgotten some of this reading! Argh!): I have strong male AND female tendencies. Wayne laughed and said I surely know what he means...upon thinking about this, I'd have to agree! I am a healer and need to be expanding and doing healing now. I'm very independent, and yet even as a child, I always had someone to take care of me; to watch over me. When I'm not allowed my independence and forced to do something I don't want to do, I'm definitely not fun to be around. So true!!! It's a time for me to complete something (the BOOK!) and move forward with new studies and interests. I am going for ordination (true!) and this is as it should be; it's what I need to be doing now. Thank you, Wayne!

I'll end this post by saying that one never knows just what wonderful things are going to happen when one attends a Spiritualist church! As I was sitting in the pew recently, a lovely woman named Alice, who is an automatic writer, came up and gave me a message that she had received just for me! The message said "Help is in your heart. Open and let the world in. The heart becomes overloaded and darkness prevails. Light will lift the load." Thank you, Alice!

Then, Reverend Lorraine (I think her last name is Wiley, but not totally sure of this), a visiting reverend to TNSA this past Sunday, read for me during the message portion of the service. She said something like, "Wisdom. I see wisdom regarding you. Very soon you will be ready to gain much wisdom...6 weeks from now. This wisdom will come in the form of education and will be of a spiritual nature." Now what's cool is that I'll be going for Spiritual Insight Training II at the end of August!!! Amazing!

Water As A Spirit Conduit

Yesterday some interesting stuff happened to Chris and I. I was washing my hair, which I do the old-fashioned way in the sink, and I heard distinctly, "Jen, coopkoo, COOPKOO, JEN!!!..." Head under water, I loudly said, "Chris? What? I'm washing my hair." I then heard Chris coming down from upstairs, not exactly in alarm, but puzzled. I said to him, "Did you just yell "Jen and coopkoo" at me? He said, "No, I was upstairs on the computer." Without skipping a beat I asked, "Were you thinking of me a bit ago?" Chris said, "Jen, I'm always thinking of you." I said, "Well your thoughts or someone just spoke to me." For the record, Chris often calls me "cuckoo," and it gets slanged into "coopkoo."

Later that evening, Chris said, "You know how our fish tank gets loud when the water is down a bit?" I said yes, knowing this is because the two filters in our 55 gallon tank splash loudly when the tank is not totally full. Chris went on to say, "Well, I keep hearing...and this may sound weird...a whole soccer game being played out as I hear the water splashing." He continued, "Yeah, I hear the announcer, and when goals are scored, and the cheering of the crowd." I said, "You know, I've read from more than one metaphysical author, Sylvia Browne included, how water and electricity are conduits for spirits to communicate with us." Apparently, the spirits find it easier to use water and/or electricity to show us they are around and to get our attention. The more we notice this, the more spirits use it as a means of communication.

So this morning I was telling Chris how a teacher saw a golden aura around our Alexander, youngest son living in Japan. Alex is an assistant language teacher in Mobara City, Chiba, Japan. The teacher who saw the aura told another teacher, and then the teacher that was told let Alex know. Just as I was relaying all of this to Chris, the electricity went out for a second or two. Raising my eyebrows I said, "Case in point."

Oh, and btw, our wind-up clock (yes, I know it's not electrical, but it IS mechanical) keeps either stopping even tho' it's well-wound and/or the alarm goes off now and again...when the alarm has not been set. I'm going to start recording what time it is when this happens and then look up what meaning(s) the numbers may have for us.

An Unexpected Numerology Reading

Before I begin, let's just say it's been a wild few weeks, making for a minimal of posts on this blog due to the craziness. Took a day job. Quit the day job...believe me, a necessary decision. Chris got a part-time teaching job on the day after I quit. This job will pay not only for my upcoming, 2-year schooling at Fellowships of the Spirit, it will help make life easier for two not-your-typical-artists a jazz musician/composer and one a psychic fiber artist. We are grateful for this blessing to come into our lives. We're open and thankful for this abundance.

To add to all the above, I have begun belly dancing. I'm taking lessons with the most wonderful group of women, Bennington Beledi. Why? Well, I've been talking to my family about taking up dancing for years and years. I used to dance when I was in high school. The time to dance again has arrived. Whenever I do a lot of something...fiber arts or spiritual work, for example...I find that I need something else to ground and balance me. As I searched for such balance, a lightbulb went off, and belly dancing was the answer. I'm having a blast, tho' it may take awhile for this 52 year old body to learn the necessary moves involved. No matter, it's grand fun!

And then there was one more new addition to my (really should read "our," as Chris kindly drives Miss Jenny to these new pursuits she's cooked up) schedule: As mentioned in the past post, The National Spiritual Alliance, I've begun attending church more or less regularly again. This already has given me much joy. I truly enjoy being with other people in a loving, learning, and prayerful, environment.

Now as for our "unexpected numerology reading," it occurred after last Sunday's service. Our friend, Bernard, took us to a covered bench at the beginning of the Bridge of Names (as described in the linked past post above). With pen and paper he began with Chris, asking for his numerical birthdate and to spell his full name out. Bernie proceded to put numbers by the birthdate's numbers and also by Chris' name. I'm not fully sure how numerology works, although friend and teacher, Janice of The Healing Room, has previously explained it to me a little. After some adding and/or subtracting, Bernie proclaimed that Chris was a #1. Bernie also talked about other numbers present in Chris' reading. Chris was told he'd make an excellent boss. He's great with money but a little "tight." Plus, he doesn't mind doing what some men proclaim as "women's work."

Next came my numerology reading. Lo and behold, I'm a #1, too!!! Oooh boy, this seems to make for occasional sparks between us...perhaps good and not so good. Based on other numbers present in my reading, Bernie proclaimed I'm TERRIBLE with money. He said that Chris would do best to look after all the money in the family. I can't deny this proclamation one iota. He said I am very creative in an artistic sort of way. Bernie said that I need to be loved at all times, and if I'm not loved, I'll move on to find it. No problem, after 30 years Chris has thankfully not stopped loving me. He may get irritated with me or flabbergasted by me, but he's never wavered regarding his love. Then Bernie said with a glint in his eyes, "And she's good in bed!" We all had a big chuckle about THAT!

Bernie handed us each a sheet with what being a #1 entails. I'm not sure if he is the author of the following, but the credit goes to him for sharing it with us. I'm guessing Bernie has condensed what he has learned regarding numbers in numerology and has sheets for each number. In any case, here's what Bernie gave us regarding both Chris and I being a #1:

No. 1 Life Cycle
"The Pioneer"

"You are the Pioneer, the leader, the captain, and the planner. Yours is a very positive nature, for you have a truly strong individuality. Your place in the path of life is in the driver's seat of the chariot of experience. Servitude is unknown to you, and subservience is completely alien to your nature."

"You are original and creative and possess the aggressive qualities necessary to put your productive ideas into practical, material form. Ambition is a prime factor in your life, and it motivates you to strive arduously for the success you desire. You are endowed with executive ability, and can direct affairs, whether they are those of a large organization or the household."

"Determination, strength, and will are the tools of your ambition, and you use them with the authority of one who has skill and training."

"Occasionally you demonstrate the negative aspects of these qualities. At such times you are domineering and hasty. It is wiser for you to use diplomacy and get your way than to try to impose it on others by sheer force of will."

"You are inclined to be critical and demanding, but somewhat unable to take criticisms others offer to you, for deep within your nature is a sensitivity you try to conceal."

"Follow the generous impulses of your heart, and you will retain your leadership and your friendships."

Thank you, dear new friend, Bernie!

Five Free Empath Readings On Hold (*See Update At Bottom Of Post)

Due to me recently starting a job and in the throes of being trained for it, I will not be able to offer 5 free Empath readings this month. Hopefully next month my "free" offer will be able to be resumed. Paid readings are still being accepted and tucked in and around my present schedule. Thank you for your understanding.

Just an additional note that blog posts might be a little scarce this month, as least until I settle into an outside-the-home working routine again. This work is necessary so that I may have the chance to pay for and begin school at Fellowships of the Spirit in Lily Dale by November. The 2 years of this schooling will no doubt help me to become a better psychic reader and healer overall...a win-win-win situation!

Oh how I wish that there was a scholarship/grant program for psychic healers in training.

*News Flash ~ The times they are a changin'...GREAT news to be posted later today...5 free Empath Readings will be able to be resumed again...look for upcoming post...
